New Lassen National Forest acting supervisor, Tara Jones, makes good on the promise to bring monthly reports to the county Supervisors.
Tuesday’s Supervisors meeting kicked off with Jones alongside the forest’s three district rangers who said combined the Forest’s leadership have “synchronized” thier schedules to coincide with the Supervisor’s meetings so that at least one Forest Ranger can attend the meetings to provide updates.
In this month’s reports, Jones highlighted the Forest’s accomplishments in removing hazardous fuels across the forest floor. This included more than what was projected, 40 million board feet this year, that squares to over 200,000 tons of hazardous fuels, ladders fuels and over dense stands.”
Additionally, Jones emphasized that the Forest services budget remains tight. Nationally the Forest will not be hiring temporary forest employees outside of fire jobs. Jones dedicated that the Lassen National Forest will work to continue to provide “good customer service” and determine how to best protect communities against the threat of wildfires.
In the coming months’ Jones noted a 5-year program of work, a comprehensive plan for the Lassen National Forest is nearing completion, expected to be available by December.
