The Lassen National Forest has issued a closure order for portions of the forest affected by the Park Fire, which has rapidly grown to over 300,000 acres. The fire exhibits extreme behavior and high temperatures, prompting the closure to ensure public safety and facilitate emergency response efforts.
Forest Supervisor Deb Bumpus signed Forest Order No. 06-24-06, effective from July 28, 2024, through August 25, 2024, prohibiting entry into the closure area. The order aims to protect emergency responders and the public from unpredictable fire behavior and reduced visibility due to smoke. It restricts access to National Forest System lands, roads, and trails within the specified area, as shown in the included exhibits.
Exemptions are granted to federal, state, or local officials, organized rescue or firefighting personnel, and owners or lessees of land within the closure area needing access to their property. The closure follows consultations with CALFIRE, local sheriff’s offices, and other relevant agencies.
Violations of the closure order may result in fines up to $5,000 for individuals or $10,000 for organizations, or imprisonment for up to six months. This measure is intended to reduce the risk of injury or death and will be enforced immediately.
