Lassen Library to Close for Four Months – Last Chance to Borrow Books This Saturday

The Lassen Library will undergo a long-awaited remodel, closing its doors until possibly February. Established in 1996, the library is in desperate need of modernization. Operating on a small budget without city or county funding as a special district, the library has secured grant funds from the California State Library for this project, which Library Director Heather Blevins called a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

The renovation will include new paint inside and out, updated flooring, a redesigned front desk area and entry, and upgrades to the HVAC system and restrooms.

Although in-person services will cease after this Saturday, September 8th, the library will continue its programs at offsite locations. Children’s storytime will take place at Memorial Park as long as weather permits, while the literacy program will move to the high school, with tutoring sessions at Lassen Community College. For more information on continuing programs and their temporary locations, visit the Lassen Library website.

For those missing in-person borrowing, the Libby app offers free eBooks and magazines.

Contracts for the remodel are expected to be awarded at the library’s next board meeting on September 19th.
