Lassen HSS Receives Bids for Two Housing Projects

Health and Social Services will ask the Lassen Supervisors to consider approving two supportive housing projects. At the Board’s May 23rd meeting, Health and Social Services (HSS) gave a presentation about the Homekey Program. Homekey allows public organizations to create different types of housing, such as converting motels into permanent homes.

It was advised by the Supervisors at this meeting to have HSS post a Request for Proposals (RFP) for Homekey Projects, to which the department has received proposals from two companies: Danco Communities and ColWest Investments.
ColWest wants to convert a former walk-in medical clinic into ten permanent housing units for young adults aged 18-24 who don’t have a home. They have experience fixing up old buildings, and HSS says they are familiar with Lassen County.
Danco Communities wants to convert a local motel into 30-40 permanent housing units. The company is known throughout the state for creating affordable housing and has previously worked on other Homekey Projects.
The HSS staff believes both projects would benefit the County and is seeking guidance from the Board to move forward.

A grant funds this program, but money will need to be set aside in this fiscal year’s budget to support it in the future. The Supervisors meet at 9 am tomorrow, July 11th, at their Chambers on Nevada Street in Susanville.
