Lassen County’s Behavioral Health has seized a distinctive opportunity to provide assistance to individuals facing mental health crises when others are unavailable, utilizing an innovative approach.
In collaboration with Spare-a-Dime Inc., Judy’s House stands as a one-of-a-kind after-hours drop-in center. It caters to those who may not meet all the qualifications for a psychiatric hold within a hospital but are still in crisis and urgently require assistance.
In situations where individuals had no other recourse, Judy’s House has played a pivotal role. Tiffany Armstrong, the Director of Behavioral Health, presented the success of our support services to the Board of Supervisors. This presentation was instrumental in securing a half-a-million-dollar contract to continue providing these essential services for the next year.
The management team at Judy’s House consists of Mike and Andrea Hernandez, a dedicated husband and wife duo.
Every year, Judy’s House extends its services to over 300 individuals, offering assistance close to a thousand times during times of need. What sets Judy’s House apart is its unparalleled ability to offer support services after regular business hours. Tiffany Armstrong stressed the importance of this, as most support services operate strictly during business hours, leaving a significant gap where individuals cannot seek help, often leading to further deterioration.
Judy’s House also contributes to the county by providing peer support and educational programs, further enhancing its value to the community.
