The Almanor Foundation reports that it is partnering with the Maidu Summit Consortium in hosting the Big Time Logging Jamboree with sponsor Collins Pine on June 7 at Collins Park in Chester from noon to 5 p.m.

“Each year competitors and guests have increased as we celebrate logging and forestry in Plumas County,” said Misty Salem, MSC finance and community engagement coordinator. “This is a great event for the community to enjoy the competitions and learn about MSC and the projects we are working on for land management and protection.”

The event started in 2022, designed to kick off the tourist season in the Almanor Basin, say organizers. It allows MSC staff to celebrate and appreciate the history of logging in the area and the contribution of the Native American logger.

The event opens with a Maidu song and prayer and showcases 13 competitive events with cash prizes for first to fourth place. A $1,000 award goes to the best overall logger. For bragging rights, businesses can enter the axe throw contest for some friendly competition amongst one another, say organizers.

A variety of food and craft vendors await attendees with beverages hosted by The Almanor Foundation. Admission is free. More information is available by calling 530-258-2299, emailing [email protected] and visiting www.maidusummit.org.
