You’re invited to share your thoughts on local hazards and potential risks as Lassen County, the City of Susanville, and the Susanville Indian Rancheria continue to work together to update the Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP).
A virtual public meeting will be held on Monday, October 7, 2024, at 6:00 p.m.
The LHMP is a document that outlines strategies to minimize the impacts of natural and human-made hazards, such as wildfires, floods, and severe weather events. By identifying these risks and developing action plans, the county can better protect the community, infrastructure, and local businesses. Regular updates to the LHMP are required by FEMA every five years to remain eligible for hazard mitigation assistance grants.
Your unique perspective can help shape the future safety and resilience of the county.
Following the public meeting, the next step is to submit the updated plan to the California Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) and FEMA for approval. Before this submission, a draft of the plan will be presented to the Lassen County Board of Supervisors on October 15, 2024. Once Cal OES and FEMA approve the draft, public hearings will be conducted by the Lassen County Board of Supervisors, Susanville City Council, and the Susanville Indian Rancheria Tribal Business Council.
The current LHMP expired in January 2024, and the county aims to have an updated, FEMA-approved plan in place by the end of the year. You can join the meeting via Zoom found on the Lassen County Planning and Building Services website.
