In nearby Butte County, an invasive species of mosquito has been detected. Yesterday mosquito and vector control district officials say yellow fever mosquitoes were found in east Oroville. The findings are the first for this year but the invasive mosquito has been found in Oroville for the past three years. This species has the potential to transmit viruses like dengue, yellow fever, and zika. The district says they will mitigate the spread of the mosquito with door-to-door inspections, surveillance, barrier treatments, and live trapping. You can reduce the risk your risk of bites by wearing long sleeves and mosquito repellants when outdoors.
