Over one hundred lightning strikes rattled the region overnight, bringing torrential rains and power outages. While the storm likely caused some damage, there have been no significant reports as of this morning.
As a reminder, when caught in a thunderstorm, the national weather service says the best practice is to Set up a way to receive weather alerts, Take shelter indoors, Stay away from trees and other tall objects, and Avoid water. If a structure is unavailable a car with the windows rolled up is a good option.
Yet according to weather outlooks into next week, it is expected to feel like summer. However, forecasts predict the winds returning from late Saturday night through Monday. Wind gusts between 60-70 mph are possible along the ridges, and gusts of 35-45 mph for the valleys.
The Reno national weather service says these are the strongest non-thunderstorm winds since early April and are not common for mid-June.
