Recent Thunderstorm Activity Leads to Multiple Lightning Strikes Sparking Wildfires Across the Region

Rim Fire Update
The Rim Fire in Lassen County, burning at Loomis Cabin Rd east of Little Valley, has reached 1,025 acres and is 15% contained as of the latest update. Firefighting efforts are ongoing, and additional resources are being deployed to manage and contain the blaze. These resources include 447 personnel, 2 helicopters, 29 engines, 15 dozers, 7 water tenders, and 18 crews.

Despite challenging conditions such as red flag warnings and thunderstorms, progress has been made in containing the fire. The blaze prompted evacuation warnings for the Dixie Valley area into Sunday, but those warnings have since been lifted. Fire crews are focusing on establishing containment lines and protecting nearby communities and natural resources. The situation remains dynamic, and efforts are being made to mitigate the impact and prevent further spread. Cal Fire is managing this fire.

Plumas County Lightning Fires
Storms in Plumas County confirmed two lightning fires, including the Middle Fire. Firefighters on the National Forests will maintain heightened patrols and respond swiftly to any new incidents, as lightning fires can sometimes take days or weeks to become apparent.

Babcock Fire Update
The Babcock Fire has been fully contained as of noon yesterday, holding at under half an acre. Firefighters conducted mop-up operations throughout the day, the fire was controlled and is now in patrol status. The fire, discovered in the early morning, originated from a lightning strike approximately 4 miles south of Antelope Lake and less than 2 miles east of the Middle Fire. Initial findings revealed a single smoldering log, and suppression efforts swiftly followed.

Middle Fire Update
The Middle Fire, located approximately 5 miles southwest of Antelope Lake and west of Babcock Crossing, has also been successfully contained. This lightning-induced fire was reported just after 7 p.m. Sunday evening and held at less than half an acre. A comprehensive handline was established around the fire by 10:30 p.m., with firefighters continuing to secure containment today.

Sierra County Update

In Sierra County, the fire held around 3 acres through the night. Firefighters continue to improve containment objectives. As of the 9:50 a.m. Sunday update, the fire was 50% contained, and by the 3:42 p.m. update, it was 75% contained. Crews are continuing mop-up operations.
