Here is a first look, while you were sleeping, at just how much rain and snow has been falling with the arrival of this next atmospheric river that has brought intense thunderstorms and rare tornado warnings for central California.
Frenchman Lake has received 1 inch of rain, while Buck’s Lake recorded 1.25 inches, and LaPorte saw over 2 inches.
In the past 24 hours, Quincy has accumulated nearly 2 inches of snow, including some snow on the town’s outskirts. Chester is experiencing up to 4 inches of snow, and Westwood expects up to 8 inches.
Lassen Peak has already seen nearly 2 feet of new snow, with Boagrd and Hwy 44 receiving close to a foot and a half. These measurements are sourced from the river forecast center via the National Weather Service.
Despite these conditions, the Susan River remains below flood stage, and the Middle Fork of the Feather River is projected to peak a few feet below flood stage today, gradually receding throughout the week as the system moves away.
Localized flooding has occurred in the Leavitt Lake community, leading to the closure of Willow Street and Buffam Lane due to high waters.
The National Weather Service forecasts that the heaviest and most widespread precipitation will persist into late morning. In the Sierra, snowfall rates will likely exceed 2-3 inches per hour (>70%). Current snow levels in our local region hover around 5500-6000 feet.
