HWY 70 Re-Opens Through the Canyon

A full week ahead of schedule Caltrans has re-opened highway 70 after two full weeks of
closure due to 5 debris slides from a passing storm. The highway will have 24/7 one-way
traffic control from three miles west of Belden to two miles west of Belden. You can plan
for 10-15 minute delays when traveling through the area. Caltrans will continue
rehabilitation of the highway as guardrails and culvert drainage were both damaged
from the June 12 storm, and the hillside will need to be further secured. Caltrans and
contractors projected to have the highway opened by the 4 th of July weekend, but have
successfully met that goal ahead of schedule.
