Health Alert: Lassen County Issues Air Quality Warning

The Lassen County Public Health Agency has issued an Air Quality Alert from July 30 to August 4, 2024, due to poor air quality from the Park Fire affecting Butte, Tehama, and Shasta Counties. Communities in Lassen County will experience fluctuating air quality, with smoke settling in low areas during nights and early mornings.

Health Risks
Exposure to elevated PM2.5 levels can cause:
Eye and throat irritation
Headaches
Nausea
Shortness of breath
Congestion
Coughing
Impaired lung function
Chest pain

Sensitive groups include the elderly, children, individuals with asthma, heart or lung conditions, pregnant women, and those engaging in outdoor activities. COVID-19-affected individuals may also face increased risks.

Recommended Actions
Limit outdoor activities.
Stay indoors with windows and doors closed.
Use air conditioners on the “recirculate” setting.
Follow asthma management plans.
Stay hydrated and avoid additional smoke exposure.
Consult a doctor if experiencing severe symptoms.
