A former CCC inmate transferred to conservation camps to the south, walked away from custody from his latest camp in San Bernadino county over a month ago and was just apprehended in Arizona Monday. Since last being seen at the Prado Camp, 30-year-old Casey Lyons was tracked to Bullhead City some 250 miles away, just across the border in Arizona. According to the CDCR, Lyons was first serving a 5-year term for second-degree robbery and assault with a deadly weapon as a second striker in 2019 in Shasta County. He was released to parole supervision in 2021 but found himself back in prison in Lassen County to serve two years, eight months for possession of ammunition as a second striker. Lyons is currently awaiting extradition back into the state.
CDCR says the department has a very high success rate of apprehending inmates that have left an adult institution, camp, or community-based program without permission, that since 1977, 99 percent of all people have been brought back into custody.
