The Feather River Resource Conservation District (RCD) is actively seeking candidates to fill two vacancies on its five-member board of directors. This nonregulatory special district plays a crucial role in providing technical assistance and funding to landowners for natural resource management, alongside offering current technical insights to guide management decisions.

The board supervises operations across Plumas County, with each director representing one of the five supervisorial districts. Directors serve voluntary four-year terms and are expected to participate in monthly meetings, as well as any special or emergency sessions required.

District Manager Michael Hall emphasized the importance of these roles, stating that directors must own land within the district’s boundaries or represent landowners therein. The current vacancies are for District 3, which includes the northern region around Lake Almanor, and District 4, covering western and central areas such as Meadow Valley and West Quincy.

Although specific districts are highlighted, Hall encourages interested individuals from all regions to apply, particularly those with expertise in forestry, watersheds, agriculture, soil science, or related fields. “Diverse backgrounds and experiences are vital in enhancing our service to Plumas County communities,” Hall noted.

Established in 1954 as the Indian-American Valleys Resource Conservation District, the organization expanded its boundaries in 1993 and was renamed Feather River RCD to align more closely with Plumas County’s borders.
