The Department of Water Resources has completed the first snow survey of the season at the Phillips Station in the Sierras. These early seasons’ winter storms were a good start and did give the state minimal drought relief.
The manual survey recorded just less than 80 inches of snow depth and a snow water equivalent of 20 inches. That is over 200 percent of average for the area on this date. Statewide the snowpack is 160 percent of average for this date. Locally the Lassen Volcanic National Park has reported a total snow depth of 7 feet at the southwest entrance of the park.
