Portola’s Public Works team finished a new nonpotable water pipeline running from Golden Springs, below Beckwourth Peak, to the city.
Crews laid over a mile of pipe through difficult terrain, down one side of a ravine and back up the other.
The project started after the city received seven water storage tanks free through a California Department of Water Resources drought relief grant this year.
Combined with existing tanks, these additions provide multiple backups for irrigation and emergency water. This reduces the strain on the city’s main water system.
The new pipeline and storage tanks aim to improve water supply reliability during dry periods.
