The lighting and the bathrooms at Memorial Park in Susanville may be getting an upgrade. The Susanville City council has approved changing gears with funding from a community block development grant. A near 140,000 dollars will be allocated to the upgrades at the park that have long been on the council’s priorities to improve.
It was suggested to use the funds on a complete overhaul of the bathrooms that are located behind the bleachers of Frank Ernaga Field, as well as indicated by Councilmember Schuster to possibly relocate the facility to a new location closer to the playgrounds, as getting younger children to the restrooms is difficult for parents visiting the park. Also up for consideration is the possibility of renovating the former restroom facility located over the bridge by the tennis courts.
As for lighting the park, the council would like to see the back portion along the river lighted for safety and to enable the police department to better patrol the area.
Staff will begin to price the projects and determine what can be accomplished with the funds. A public hearing will be set for a future council meeting to amend the official grant application, with the process needing to be completed by the end of October.
