Community Raising Money to Slow Down Speeders

In rural towns in northeast California, the state highway often serves as the main street, leading to concerns about speeding drivers failing to slow down as they enter town. The Adin Park Committee, responsible for maintaining the town’s park and community hall through volunteered hours, grants, county money, and community fundraisers, is working to address this issue by raising funds to purchase a radar speed sign.

This sign would remind motorists to slow down as they enter town, particularly given the foot traffic from community members enjoying the park, swimming hole, local supply store, or have homes facing the street. Despite previous efforts by Caltrans and the Highway Patrol to set up mobile radar signs, the town needs a permanent solution to prevent speeding.

To this end, the committee has turned to Caltrans for help, if they are successful in their fundraising efforts, they hope to purchase two flashing radar signs to display the driver’s speed and attach them to the existing speed limit signs at each end of town. Caltrans will help install the signs.

Donations to the committee, which operates as a charity, can be made by PayPal at adin c hall @gmail.com, by mailing a check to the Adin PO Box 206, or through an upcoming Venmo account.

The committee stresses that every donation, no matter how small, will help keep the community safe.
