The City of Portola has earned statewide recognition for its efforts to keep the community cleaner and more beautiful.
City Manager Ryan Bonk announced that Portola officially became a Clean California Community on May 20th after completing 10 of the 15 requirements needed for the designation.
One of those requirements included organizing community cleanup events, where local volunteers helped remove trash and improve public spaces around town. Portola is now one of only 100 communities in California to receive the designation — and the first and only community in Plumas County to earn the recognition.
The Clean California Community program, created through the state’s Clean California initiative, recognizes communities that take action to reduce litter, improve public areas, and encourage long-term environmental stewardship.
Portola’s efforts included several cleanup events, partnerships with local volunteers, public education, and projects focused on reducing litter and improving community spaces. The city also worked to address areas impacted by illegal dumping and accumulated debris.
As part of the designation, new signs will soon be installed around town recognizing Portola as a Clean California Community.
City officials say the achievement reflects the work of local residents, volunteers, and community partners who have helped make Portola a cleaner and more welcoming place to live.
