In a display of solidarity, eastern Plumas communities have come together with Eastern Plumas Health Center (EPHC) in recent months, showcasing an unwavering commitment to supporting one another during challenging times.
The spirit of communal assistance was evident in the aftermath of the devastating fire that swept through Gumba’s and the Village Bakery, leaving a significant impact on the community. Residents, alongside the EPHC team, rallied together, launching fundraisers to aid those affected. Owners of Gumba’s Pizza, Matt and Elizabeth, who have been instrumental contributors to the community, received overwhelming financial support to help their staff navigate through the challenging aftermath of the incident.
But the community’s benevolence didn’t stop there. A notable taco fundraiser was organized to support the family of a valued community member facing medical expenses. The response was remarkable, with the community purchasing 1000 tacos, and the funds generated were dedicated to assisting the family during their time of need.
Beyond responding to crises, the community has actively engaged in initiatives to improve the lives of others. The EPHC auxiliary, fueled by community donations and purchases from the Nifty Thrifty, is set to procure new lab equipment for the hospital, benefiting all patients. Additionally, they have allocated funds for 10 scholarships, empowering the staff to pursue advanced education.
The community’s commitment to education and betterment was further underscored by the turnout at the Rotary Fly-In breakfast, where funds raised contribute to high school scholarships and community projects. The recent health fair in September saw widespread support and participation, with various community agencies joining forces to share resources and services available to everyone in the district.
These examples highlight the transformative impact that collective efforts can have on a community. Speaking on behalf of EPHC, Doug McCoy, CEO of Eastern Plumas Health Care, expressed gratitude, stating, “I would like to thank all of you who provide your time, energy, and resources to make our area such a special place to live.” The community’s collaborative spirit and partnership with EPHC exemplify the strength that emerges when individuals and organizations join forces for the greater good.
