SHARE NOW

The CDCR Public Scoping meeting on the proposed closure of the California Correctional Center is this evening at 5pm. You must register through CDCR to be able to have access to the meeting that will be conducted through Zoom. You can also access the full scoping notice to help you have an understanding as to what to expect from the meeting. CDCR is planning to prepare an Environmental Impact Report to describe the potential impact the closure will have in the following several resource areas: Agriculture Resources, Air Quality, Energy, Geology, Land use, Public services, utilities, and wildfire. Other CEQA issues that will be addressed in the Environmental impact report include alternatives, growth-inducing impacts, and cumulative impacts. CDCR states the closure is warranted due to population decreases since 2010 as a result of changes to Ca’s penal code, voter initiatives, capacity limitations set by the federal courts, and COVID mitigation. The state does not have plans to vacate the building entirely if the closure is seen through, a staff of 10 would remain during a warm shutdown phase to maintain and minimize the deterioration of the facilities infrastructure. You can pre register for the virtual meeting at this Webinar Registration Link
