CALFIRE Lassen Modoc Unit (LMU) prepares for another Fall agricultural burn in the Honey Lake wildlife refuge area.

Officials say smoke will be visible in the project area near Wendel starting September 23, 2024. The project is expected to span over the following two weeks.

The burn is in cooperation with the CA Department of Fish and Wildlife to treat around 760 acres of flammable fuels, aimed at improving the area’s natural habitat.

LMU Chief Eric Ewing said this fall the department will be proactive in fall-prescribed burns as weather allows until the snow arrives in a recent update to the Lassen Board of Supervisors. Ewing stated there are various approved projects across the three counties, but a main focus will be on Lassen projects.

Officials ask that while smoke will be visible from next week’s rx burn you do not report it.
