Susanville Council Member Patrick Parrish goes before the Lassen Supervisors determined to improve communication and collaboration between the two official bodies.

“This is kind of how I work. I am not here representing the city council, I’m representing myself. I would like to just extend a hand and talk to each one of you if I can about any issues that you may have and how we can work together to get this moving forward” said Parrish to the board.

Parrish brought up concerns around the rumored Gas/Truck Stop during the public comment portion of the supervisor’s August 27th meeting, the project has been circulating through locals over several years, yet there has been no official word on its construction. Parrish said he has been asking people around town who are curious to know what is going on, and if legal issues are halting the project.

Emphasizing the fact, Supervisor Albaugh, said he was clueless of the project Parrish was discussing, turning to CAO Richard Egan. He responded that “there is a proposed, reportedly proposed truck stop in the south end of town in what’s considered the sphere of influence, which is county jurisdiction but city sphere of influence in terms of where it is located…there is an intent to annex that portion of the county into the city as part of this project. I would caution the board and council for that matter about engaging in discussion about that outside of the LAFCo process.” Egan noted within this process the city or county would need to apply for the annexation which would open legal discussions on the property.

Egan was under the assumption that the project was near the application stages, but LAFCo has not received one to date according to Supervisor Gallagher who also serves on the LAFCo board.

City Manager Dan Newton in response to further questioning, said the City has yet to receive any application, yet has indicated that there is an interested developer.

The supervisors received Parrish well, opening doors for communication in the future on mutually beneficial projects.
