The Greenville, California Bookmobile is gearing up for its highly anticipated launch on August 13, 2024, with a grand opening event scheduled at The Spot. This mobile library project has been a key initiative of the Plumas County Library, designed to bring library services directly to communities that may have limited access due to the region’s rural nature.
The idea for the Bookmobile was developed after the devastating Dixie Fire, which greatly impacted the area, including the Greenville community. The Plumas County Library, with support from the Board of Supervisors, sought innovative ways to continue providing essential services, leading to the creation of this mobile library. The Bookmobile will serve several communities, including Greenville, Crescent Mills, and Taylorsville, with a rotating schedule that allows residents to borrow books, DVDs, and other materials without needing to travel to a traditional library.
During the Plumas County Board of Supervisors meeting on August 6, 2024, the Bookmobile was officially presented, highlighting its significance in supporting educational and recreational needs in the aftermath of the fire. The project has received widespread community support, with various organizations contributing to its success, including the Plumas Unified School District, local libraries, and other neighboring county libraries.
The Bookmobile’s launch event at The Spot will feature community activities and give residents their first chance to explore the new mobile library. This service is expected to be a valuable resource for the community, promoting literacy and providing a sense of normalcy as Greenville continues its recovery efforts.
