Barnes Fire and Mosquito Fire Continue to Blaze

The Barnes fire burning in Modoc County has grown to over 4000 acres and prompts a shelter to open. The Modoc Sheriff’s Office said the new incident management team will shadow today and take over operations on Saturday. A shelter is established at the Cedarville Fairgrounds. Only evacuation warnings are in place at this time for Fort Bidwell and Willow Ranch communities.

The Mosquito fire burning in Placer and now El Dorado County has exploded to 25,000 acres with no containment. The fire is moving hot and fast, making a 5,000-acre run in a few hours. It is growing to the south and southeast, threatening the town of Cool. More smoke is expected to impact our region, with an air quality advisory in place for Plumas and Sierra counties this Monday for those who are sensitive.
