In response to the heightened flu and respiratory virus activity, Banner Lassen Medical Center in Susanville is implementing strict visitor restrictions starting today, Dec. 1, as part of Banner Health’s system-wide measures to protect patients, staff, and visitors.
The seasonal policies include the following guidelines:
- No Visitors Under 13: Children under the age of 13 are not allowed to visit patient rooms. If present in the hospital, they must remain in public waiting areas or cafeterias under adult supervision.
- Ill Visitors Prohibited: Individuals experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, vomiting, or diarrhea are asked to refrain from visiting the hospital.
- Special Screening for Obstetrics Visitors: Siblings visiting newborns in the obstetrics unit will be screened for illness by hospital staff.
- Hand Hygiene Encouraged: All visitors are urged to wash or sanitize their hands frequently to prevent the spread of infection.
“The health and safety of everyone in our facility is our top priority,” said Joan Ivaska, executive director of infection prevention at Banner Health. “These restrictions are vital to ensuring that our patients and staff remain safe during the challenging flu season.”
While current hospitalizations from flu and respiratory viruses are low, health experts warn of a potentially severe season ahead. Banner Health strongly advises anyone over six months of age to receive a flu vaccine, emphasizing its importance in preventing severe illness. Flu shots are available at Banner Health Urgent Care locations and are typically covered by insurance.
Local residents visiting Banner Lassen Medical Center are reminded to adhere to these restrictions and take precautions to help reduce the spread of illness. For additional details, visit Banner Health’s website or contact the hospital directly.
