Health and Safety Closure of Campgrounds at
Antelope Lake
QUINCY, Calif. – August 5, 2021 – Campgrounds at Antelope Lake have temporarily closed this week
due to health and safety concerns. There has been limited access to Antelope Lake from Quincy for the last
several weeks caused by evacuations and road closures from the Dixie Fire, which has prevented access
for trash service. Temporary closure of the campgrounds is necessary to protect visitor safety and wildlife.
Affected sites include: Lone Rock Campground, Boulder Creek Campground, and Long Point
Campground.
Outdoors in Plumas LLC, a private concessionaire under special use permit with the Forest, operates the
three campgrounds at Antelope Lake. They have made tremendous efforts to keep the campgrounds open,
but it is not safe for their employees or the public to continue operations without trash service.
“We hope Outdoors in Plumas will be able to re-open campgrounds by mid-August as long as
campgrounds can safely be re-opened”, said Leslie Edlund, Acting Mt. Hough District Ranger.
Day use sites at Antelope Lake will remain open, including Lost Cove boat launch, Antelope Picnic Area,
Lunker Landing and Guiney Point, but there will be limited services and visitors must pack out their own
trash.
