David Hollister, Plumas County District Attorney, announced today at the Board of Supervisors meeting that the Almanor Foundation (TAF) has been selected by Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) to oversee a $1.5 million investment establishing the Northern Plumas Economic Development Fund. The initiative is designed to support long-term economic recovery and growth in the communities most severely impacted by the 2021 Dixie Fire.
The Fund will be managed by TAF and guided by an advisory board representing local perspectives and expertise to direct funding to support jobs, recreation, businesses, workforce development, and community resilience across northern Plumas County. As the selected administrator of the fund, TAF will ensure that funding decisions are transparent, collaborative, and grounded in sound economic research addressing the community’s needs and priorities.
“This funding is a pivotal moment for the communities in the burn scar. Our role is not to decide for the community where the funding goes but to convene, coordinate, and ensure that every dollar is invested where it will have the greatest and most lasting impact. That’s what community foundations do,” says Susan Bryner, President & CEO, The Almanor Foundation.
The premise for economic development is the improvement of a community’s fiscal well-being that is sustainable through better jobs, stronger businesses, and improved infrastructure that enhances the quality of life. For Plumas County, it means building a diverse, resilient local economy that supports year-round employment while protecting forests, watersheds, wildlife, and community character.
TAF was chosen to oversee this fund because PG&E needed a trusted, regionally rooted institution. As a 501(c)(3) community foundation, TAF offers:
- Regional neutrality — serving all communities across Plumas County
- Professional fiscal management — federal nonprofit compliance, transparent reporting, annual accountability
- Cross-sector convening power — bringing together public agencies, nonprofits, businesses, tribal partners, and residents
- Broad funding authority — able to invest in nonprofits, small businesses, community groups, and public agencies.
- A proven track record — including the Plumas Housing Council, Built for Plumas, regional recreation initiatives, and multiple wildfire recovery programs.
“This funding can make a major impact on our community. TAF is proud and honored that our successes have shown our ability to do ‘right by our community,’ and we look forward to working together for the betterment of all who call Plumas County home,” says Bryner.
