The California Fish and Wildlife investigates possible wolf predation in South Lassen County. On August 3rd a CDFW investigator discovered a deceased adult cow while investigating a cluster of GPS locations from a Lassen County wolf. CDFW notified the producer, who asked for an investigation to determine if the loss was wolf-caused. Investigations began the same day of the report, it was determined that the cow died 3 or more days earlier, although the wolf tracked by the CDFW was located near the cow in the days leading up to the discovery, there was no evidence of predation. Producers can report possible depredation to the CDFW on the Grey Wolf page at wildlife.ca.gov. The USDA does have wolf-livestock compensation grants for producers who have a wolf kill confirmed by the CDFW.
