Within the City of Susanville starting today you can only water your lawn and flower beds three days out of the week. The city must comply with the CA water resources board order to reduce water usage by up to 20%, initiating the city’s stage 1 of their water shortage contingency plan. If you have an even-numbered address you can water on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Odd-numbered addresses within the city limits can water on Tuesdays, Friday, and Sundays. If caught in violation you will first be warned with a door notice, if followed by a second violation you could be fined 500 dollars. In addition to the watering restrictions, you may want to fix any of those leaky faucets, for every 100 cubic feet of water used after the allotted base rate usage your home uses, you will have a 25-cent rate increase added to your bill. That equates to roughly every 750 gallons of water you go over your allotted amount you will be charged an extra quarter of a dollar. The average person uses 80 to 200 gallons of water a day. To help you conserve water the Public works department has shared a list of ways to reduce your water use and will also give each home a free low-flow shower head if you are a city of Susanville water customer.
