Susanville City Council to Discuss Road Projects, Special Events, and Prison Closure Research

Road closures, repaving projects, and a letter in support of research on the effects of prison closures on rural communities are on the agenda for tomorrow’s Susanville City Council meeting. A change order increase of 19,000 dollars is needed for a contracting firm to complete the repaving of three streets within the city as oil costs have increased since last year. The project was placed on hold due to the encroaching Dixie Fire. Additionally, The 13 farmer’s markets and the first annual Law Enforcement torch run for the Special Olympics are also seeking council approval to move forward with their events taking place in June, and the mayor will ask to sign a letter of support for a professor, the urban institute, and UW Justice Lab to research the effects of prison closure and the repurposing of facilities in rural communities. The mayor states in the letter that the council supports these efforts to study this transition to help the city pursue a just and equitable future for Susanville.
