A Reno woman died Saturday following a boating collision at Frenchman Lake, and the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office says alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, emergency dispatchers received a Text-to-911 at approximately 11:21 a.m. Saturday, July 11, reporting a collision involving a personal watercraft and a recreational boat near the Frenchman Lake boat launch.
Emergency responders from multiple agencies arrived at the scene and immediately began lifesaving efforts. Despite those efforts, the operator of the personal watercraft was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim has been identified as Sandra Ann Skender, 47, of Reno, Nevada.
Preliminary investigators say the collision involved a personal watercraft and a recreational boat on Frenchman Lake. While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, the Sheriff’s Office said alcohol is believed to have been a factor.
No additional details about the occupants of the recreational boat or potential enforcement actions have been released.
The Plumas County Sheriff’s Office extended its condolences to Skender’s family and thanked the agencies that responded, including the Plumas County Boat Patrol, U.S. Forest Service, Care Flight, Eastern Plumas Health Care Ambulance, Beckwourth Peak Fire, and other deputies and emergency personnel.
The investigation into the fatal collision remains ongoing, and no further information has been released.
