Modoc Medical Center EMS students and staff recently joined Cal Fire and the Alturas Rural Fire Department for a hands-on extrication training exercise. Working alongside fellow first responders allows the team to sharpen critical lifesaving skills and strengthen communication before the next real emergency occurs.
Extrication training focuses on safely removing injured or trapped victims from vehicles or other confined spaces after crashes or other emergencies. The training emphasizes protecting patients from further injury, stabilizing damaged vehicles, managing scene hazards and using specialized rescue tools to free victims quickly and safely while coordinating with emergency medical personnel.
The EMT-B course at Modoc Medical Center is an accelerated program designed to equip students with essential skills such as patient assessment, CPR and trauma care. Guided by experienced instructors, students are prepared to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians exam upon completion. The course structure supports those looking to quickly enter the EMT field and provides comprehensive training for career success. The current class began in November 2025 and concludes this month.
Seven of the current EMS students are also full-time Modoc Medical Center employees. Hospital officials said they are proud of the employees’ commitment to cross-training and expanding their skills to better serve the community.
