The Alturas Police Department is undergoing a significant leadership change that took effect November 17, 2025, following the termination of Police Chief Marc Muller’s contract with the City of Alturas.
According to minutes from a November 13, 2025 Special Meeting of the Alturas City Council, Mayor Pro-Tem was authorized in closed session to send a letter terminating Chief Muller’s contract, effective Monday, November 17. The council also authorized signing a contract with Uptegrove to serve as a hearing officer should the former Chief appeal the decision.
Following the termination, the council voted 3–1 to appoint Ken Simon as Interim Chief of Police, also effective November 17.
