Veterans Day

Veterans Day is observed annually on November 11 to honor the brave men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. This day marks the anniversary of the armistice that ended World War I, originally commemorated as Armistice Day on the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.” In 1954, the holiday was renamed Veterans Day to honor veterans of all U.S. wars.

Here in Susanville, the annual Veterans Day Parade will begin at 11 a.m. at Fair Drive near the fairgrounds and proceed west along Main Street, ending at the Susanville Memorial Veteran’s Hall. Following the parade, a brief ceremony will take place upstairs at the hall, with lunch served downstairs afterward.

It’s important to remember that Veterans Day honors living veterans, while Memorial Day is dedicated to honoring those who have passed away.

We invite everyone to come out and show appreciation for our veterans who answered the call of duty. To all who served, we offer our deepest gratitude for your sacrifice. May God bless America and especially each and every one of our veterans on this Veterans Day.
