Canyon and Stampede Fires Quickly Contained in Sierra County
Sierra County, CA at approximately 12:08 PM today, the Sierra County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a tree on fire just southeast of Stampede Reservoir. The Tahoe National Forest was immediately notified, and a full wildland fire response was initiated.
Upon arrival, responding crews discovered two separate fires in the area now named the Canyon Fire and the Stampede Fire. Fire personnel, supported by helicopters, air tankers, and the Roen Dozer, acted swiftly to stop forward progression on both incidents.
The Canyon Fire was held to approximately half an acre, while the Stampede Fire was contained at about a quarter acre.
Tahoe National Forest law enforcement officers and Sierra County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the cause of the fires.
The Sierra County Sheriff’s Office thanks all responding agencies for their quick and effective response, and commends the excellent coordination and teamwork that prevented further spread.
