California is investing $3.8 billion to upgrade transportation infrastructure across the state, with projects in Plumas County receiving a share of the funding. The California Transportation Commission (CTC) approved the funds to improve roads, bridges, rail lines, and walking and bike paths.

Most of the funding, nearly $3.5 billion, comes from the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 (IIJA). These funds will support local governments and regional agencies in replacing bridges, reducing travel times, improving highway and rail safety, and addressing pollution. Another $330 million comes from Senate Bill 1 (SB 1), the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017.

Caltrans Director Tony Tavares highlighted the importance of these investments, saying they will “create safer, more equitable, and climate-resilient transportation options for all Californians.”

In Plumas County, $3.53 million from SB 1 will fund emergency fire restoration efforts on various routes. This project is part of a broader initiative covering Plumas, Tehama, and Shasta Counties to repair fire-damaged infrastructure.

This funding is part of California’s broader push to modernize transportation, enhance safety, and support sustainable infrastructure. Since the IIJA passed, the state has received over $46 billion in federal infrastructure funding, creating more than 87,000 jobs.
