Caltrans is kicking off two road projects, that will bring delays to your daily commute.

Starting Monday, August 19th, Caltrans District 2, in collaboration with VSS International, Inc., will begin the Back Forty Chip Project on U.S. 395. This $3.24 million project is set to improve a stretch of U.S. 395 east of Litchfield, running from 0.5 miles east of Mapes Lane to Karlo Road. The project includes applying an asphalt rubber chip seal, asphalt concrete dig outs, and updating road markings and striping.

Here’s what to expect:
Asphalt Dig Out Work: Begins Monday evening, August 19th, and runs through Friday, August 23rd. Work hours are 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily.

Chip Seal Operations: Scheduled to start on August 26th and continue through the end of September. Expect one-way traffic control Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., with possible Saturday work as needed.

During these operations, you should anticipate delays of up to 14 minutes. As always, slow down, drive carefully, and give yourself extra time to get where you’re going—loose gravel may be present during the chip seal process.

Caltrans is also tackling a curve warning sign replacement project across various locations in Lassen and Plumas Counties. This includes parts of U.S. 395 between Litchfield and Madeline and State Route 284 between State Route 70 and Frenchman Lake. Work on this project is set to begin on Monday, with one-way traffic control in place and delays of up to 5 minutes during work hours, Monday through Friday. This project is expected to wrap up by the end of the year.

Before starting your week Monday plan ahead for these delays and drive safely through all construction zones.
