New Sign, New Chapter: Lassen Library’s Refreshed Look

It’s a new chapter for the Lassen Library, which received a new sign after nearly a quarter of a century.

Through the combined efforts of Library Leadership and The Rotary Club of Susanville, the old sign that once hung on the brick wall of the building has been redesigned and now displays the correct library name.

Western Nevada Supply’s Marty Heath, Rotary President Morgan Nugent, and Library Board President Marshall Leve headed up the project. Lassen High’s metal shop and woodshop students also lent their helping hands under the leadership of Mr. Somerville and Mr. Fike. Painting credits went to Art students guided by Ms. Weiher.

The library was once slated for closure in the early 90s due to a lack of funds, yet Susanville voters stepped up and voted to create a special district for the Library to keep its doors open to the community.

The original sign was constructed with donated specially milled lumber, crafted by the CCC woodworking class in 1997, and placed with the help of Rotarians and Kirack construction. Over the years, the landscape lost its luster, the soaring eagle even lost a wing, and the Library had a name change.

Now, new and future generations can be welcomed by a once again vibrant sign to the Lassen District Library.
