(NASHVILLE, TN) – Rising independent country singer-songwriter Caleb Montgomery has signed
with Nashville-based record label Label22 ahead of his inaugural single, “Whiskey Talks.”
“I met Caleb roughly six years ago while playing a concert in his hometown. His dad, Chris, and I
became fast friends and remained in contact over the years,” says Stephen Cochran, award-winning
singer-songwriter and CEO of Label22 Records. “Once I heard what Caleb had been working on, I
knew we had to be involved! Signing Caleb to Label22Records was one of the easiest decisions I’ve
ever made! If you think “Whiskey Talks” is great, which we all do… stay tuned! We got a lot more
where that came from!”
Caleb’s music combines neo-traditional and Western styles, infused with a troubadour approach to
lyric writing that is perfect for storytelling. His songwriting style draws inspiration from the slow and
swinging styles of Conway Twitty and Sturgill Simpson, as well as the raw and honest songs of Tyler
Childers.
“Whiskey Talks” was inspired by the tales of horses, rodeos, and relationships that Caleb exchanged
with his friends in the rodeo community, including rodeo cowboys, working cowboys, ranchers, and
farmers. Caleb expresses his motivation: “I craft music that mirrors real life, capturing both its highs
and lows. I aim to reassure people–particularly young adults and the working class facing
heartbreak, loss, and challenges–that they are not alone in their struggles. I want young men to
embrace their emotions, forging a connection with the music and its message, rather than
succumbing to societal pressures to bottle up their feelings. In a world marked by division, I aspire to
be a source of healing.”
Caleb has become a captivating performer, having graced stages across the United States, from
Tennessee to California. In 2024, he will return to Nashville to perform at various venues, including
the Country Radio Seminar in February, to celebrate his debut album, Food Stamps Don’t Buy
Flowers is set to be released via Label22 in the spring. The album features over ten original songs, all
written by Caleb Montgomery himself. In addition to his Nashville performances, Caleb will play the
fairground and festival circuit in his home state of California, including shows at the Susanville
Cowboy Festival and the Lassen County Fair in Susanville.
WhiskeyRiff editor Aaron Ryan adds, “If you’re a fan of traditional country music, you’ll love Caleb
Montgomery. With songwriting that’s well beyond his years and a sound that’s somehow both classic
and fresh, he’s a promising up-and-comer that we’re going to be hearing a lot from in the years to
come — and I can’t wait.”
Hailing from Susanville, California, Caleb boasts a family lineage deeply rooted in music, spanning
generations. On his mother’s side, a family band played classic tunes, while his father’s lineage has
strong country roots, tracing back to his great-grandfather, a collaborator with Buck Owens and Lefty
Frizel. Caleb’s father, Chris Montgomery, showcased his musical talents at the Ryman Auditorium in
Nashville alongside Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Tanya Tucker, and Crystal Gayle during the
1994 holiday special. Chris has collaborated with notable artists Toby Keith, Marty Stewart, Little
Texas, and Mark Chesnutt. Caleb’s journey with the guitar began at the age of five, and after his
father imparted the basics with a simple D-chord, Caleb took charge of his musical education.
“Whiskey Talks” will be available for purchase on iTunes and streaming on Spotify beginning
December 15, 2023. Visit his website for additional information about Caleb, his music, and
