As law enforcement roles prove to be a challenge to fill, with departments forced to announce limited patrols due to lack of staffing, the latest from the Nevada State Police losing early morning patrols in Sparks, the Lassen County Sheriff’s office has been able to fill at the very least a handful of its open vacancies.

This week, the sheriff’s office welcomed a lead correctional technician, correctional deputy, services coordinator, technician, CSO evidence, and an animal control officer. Sheriff Dean Growdon said while there remain several vacancies in dispatch, deputies, and motor patrol, the recent hires are much needed attributing some of the increase in the number of applications to stepping up recruiting efforts through social media and other outlets.

The position of an animal control officer amid the rampant stray dogs plaguing the city and county is especially welcomed. Growdon shared that last year’s budget allowed them to return after the county took away the two positions. Growdon says he hopes to see the second open animal control officer position filled as this fiscal year’s budget will allow.
