Wildfire Fact Sheet: Stockade Canyon Fire Update

 Location: Gerlach/Washoe County, Nev. BLM Nevada – Winnemucca District

 Size & Containment: 18,630 acres & 52% contained

 

Summary: As of today, fire containment has increased to 52%. The south, east, and west perimeters remain secure after last night’s high winds event. Crews are now concentrating on securing the north perimeter, conducting hot-spotting, cold-trailing, and securing interior juniper hot spots. Air attacks have been paused for today, with helicopter missions focused on reconnaissance and mapping of unburned sage and grass islands to support mitigation efforts and protect sage grouse habitat.

 

Objective: Full Suppression utilizing approved tools within the Wilderness Study Area. Minimize acres burned in primary and general Sage Grouse habitat. Protect identified cultural and historic resources in the fire area. Prevent fire spread into adjacent jurisdiction and populated areas.

 

Fire Behavior: Active, single tree torching, isolated torching, short-range spotting.

 Closures: No closures at this time.

 Evacuations: None

 Structures Threatened: Three primary residences, historic structures and corrals threatened.

Resources & Personnel: 4 Type 2-Crew, 1 Type 1-Helicopter, 2 Type 3- Helicopter, 2 Type-3 Engines, 2 Type-4 Engines, 2 Type-6 Engines, 2 Dozers, 6 Water tenders. 169 personnel.
