PG&E is bringing its Blackhawk helicopter back to fight wildfires in Butte County and nearby areas.
The helicopter, operated by PG&E pilots, has helped battle fires like the Thompson and Park fires in 2024 and 2025. Over those two years, it flew 84 hours and dropped nearly 440,000 gallons of water.
This fall, the Blackhawk will return to Chico Air Attack Base. PG&E will cover costs for pilots on standby and the first two hours of each flight.
This year, the agreement expands the helicopter’s reach to six counties neighboring Butte: Tehama, Plumas, Yuba, Sutter, Colusa, and Glenn.
The Blackhawk’s presence aims to strengthen firefighting efforts across the region.
