PG&E is recognizing May 31st as National Dam Safety Awareness Day. Working, living, or recreating downstream from a dam can be hazardous in the event of an emergency. Dam awareness day brings the reality of that happening for you to have an evacuation plan in place if happens as well as be able to recognize signs of a potential emergency. PG&E has 95 storage reservoirs for generating hydropower yet our region is also home to several larger federal and state reservoirs having a plan, knowing warning signs, and what to do if you are in the water or near it is ever more important. You can learn more and make your family’s plan by visiting damsafety.org. National Dam safety awareness day is recognized on this day to commemorate the failure of the South Fork Dam in Johnstown Pennsylvania in 1889.
