National 4-H Week shines a spotlight on youth leadership and community impact across the region. This annual celebration, held during the first full week of October, showcases how 4-H programs help young people gain practical skills and take on leadership roles.

The 2024 campaign theme, “Beyond Ready,” highlights how 4-H prepares youth for careers, academics, and real-life challenges. While raising livestock and county fairs remain part of the experience, local 4-H projects now cover robotics, coding, photography, public speaking, culinary arts, and environmental science.

Local Extension organizers emphasize hands-on learning. Whether members raise animals, develop computer programs, or lead service projects, they build skills, accountability, and confidence to lead.

Research shows 4-H participants are twice as likely to choose healthy lifestyles and four times more likely to volunteer in their communities.

During National 4-H Week, local clubs hold events to boost spirit and action. Members wear green to show pride. They organize park cleanups, food donations, and outreach for seniors. Volunteers receive recognition for their mentorship.

Youth ages 5 to 19 can join 4-H programs in urban, suburban, and rural areas. Reach out to your county Cooperative Extension office or visit the official 4-H website to learn how you can join, volunteer, or support local youth programs. How will you help youth develop skills for their future?
