U.S. Rep. James Gallagher reported his office helped Northstate residents recover more than $5.88 million owed by federal agencies during fiscal year 2026.
Gallagher’s team resolved 195 constituent cases across California’s 1st Congressional District, focusing on issues like delayed or unresolved tax problems.
Gallagher stressed the importance of this work. Families and small business owners waited for money that belonged to them. His office stepped in to cut through red tape and get results.
He made the announcement at Paradise Town Hall, joined by Paradise Mayor Steve Crowder, local residents, and IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service representatives.
The Taxpayer Advocate Service assists people whose tax problems remain after standard channels fail.
Mayor Crowder emphasized the impact. Nearly $6 million returned to North State families and businesses shows tangible help. He thanked Gallagher’s team for prioritizing constituent service.
Gallagher added that people shouldn’t spend months battling Washington to get money they already earned. His office answers calls and works to solve those problems.
John Knecht, a CPA with Sharrett Bookkeeping in Paradise, noted the recovered funds help fire survivors regain stability. He said while recovery isn’t complete, these efforts bring some normalcy back to their lives.
