CHICO, Calif. — A fatal collision on February 15 claimed the lives of two women, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The incident occurred at approximately 10:48 p.m. when a white GMC Sierra was traveling southbound on Highway 99, north of Shippee Road. The vehicle, which carried two female occupants, veered off the road for reasons that are still under investigation. It subsequently struck a wire fence and steel fence posts, causing it to overturn, as reported by the CHP.
During the crash, one of the women was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other occupant was partially ejected and later died from her injuries after being transported to Enloe Medical Center.
According to the CHP, neither woman was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. The driver’s identity has not yet been determined, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities are also considering the possibility that alcohol may have been a contributing factor.
