Travel State Route 299 through the Pit One Grade area west of Fall River Mills should see some relief from major delays later this week.
Crews working on the Pit One Grade Rockfall Mitigation Project are finishing operations to remove large boulders and improve safety along the highway. According to Caltrans, the rock removal work is expected to be completed Thursday, June 25.
Once that work is finished, the current delays of up to 89 minutes will come to an end. However, officials say you should still expect short delays of up to about 13 minutes while the remaining project work continues.
The project is aimed at reducing rockfall hazards and improving safety for drivers traveling this important route, which connects communities in northeastern California and serves as a major corridor for residents, commuters, and visitors.
