46-year-old Maitram Hoang crashed her SUV into a stop sign on North Sacramento street as she left a business turning onto Main Street. The force of the collision ripped the sign from the ground and was found in a nearby parking lot. Hoang fled the scene in her SUV, but officers caught up to her as two witnesses trapped her between their vehicles. Officers were able to stop her, but she then attempted to evade officers for a second time and reversed her vehicle into the patrol car.
A high-speed chase through Main street ensued at excess speeds of 60mph on Weather low street. She lost control of her SUV, hit a curb, and crashed into a parked car on Carrol street. That did not stop her from trying to escape, but due to the damage to her SUV, she could only travel a few more yards before officers could detain her.
She has been arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, evading police officers, and driving while under the influence of alcohol, in addition to hitting and run causing property damage on a suspended license.
